Yesteray I realized I had waaaay too much free time. So I sketched what I thought Helmia would look like. I even gave each building and area a description... Which I'll post later on. Helmia always struck me as the center of everything and a very crowded busy place. Guarded by tall walls and Guards standing by it's gates. Poverty isn't uncommon an elderly woman maybe some kids on the street could have a quest? I don't know whether ti give it dusty and sandy ground for that affect but that wouldn't fit in with the blocks of flats which can be found in the north west part of Helmia. Anyways it was something like this at first. www.ashleysellshouses.com/images/High_Desert_House_small.jpg But maybe a modern theme with rickety rackety alley way and houses in some parts. Could I find somewhere to put this on the map. But basically I'm running out of things to fill this up, i've already got the basics sorted out. First Shot i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg152/Roxannax/Helmia2.jpgDescriptions Coming soon. I'm also gonna start working on designs of what this looks like up close. Shops and streets etc.

[glow=purple,2,300]Hmm, I remember reading a lot about desert housing for my ANTH326-05S1 but I can't remember most of it! I do know that, in certain areas, the claybrick walls extended up past the roof to make an elecated courtyard where they could store things and sometimes sleep up there if it was particularly hot. I also remember that windows were small an dirregular and often left uncovered because the family couldn't afford wooden shutters. (trees, and thus wooden crafts were scarce and expensive)
There was also often a sewerage/offal pit within walking distance of a settlement. The poorer folks would have the houses closer to it, and those poor houses would have no windows and only one door because of the stench. xD[/glow]

Cool, pueblo-esque houses would be interesting alright. I'll be able to get plenty of references in the future, seeing as how I'm currently expecting to go to Arizona (US) for a year or two of community college before heading to another college. I've also seen variations of this in Africa, I'll have to see if my family has any photos of them.
Are you planning on having the official map be overlooking the city from the same birds' eye view angle, or is this just a blueprint for future reference?

I would say blue-print for future references.

Well Helmia strikes me as modern... which may be a bit more obvious when i type the descriptions. >.< But i like the houses you posted so I has thinking having similar designs for Tilan. But have them made entirely of ice. It may not work but as house like that built of ice seems cool.

How about taking those style houses/building and put them in a layout somewhat similar to a medieval city, with the 'castle' up on a hill overlooking the walled city, lots of flags and decorations, a grand bricked (Or some form of paved) walkway that leads to the 'Castle', but also plenty of dark alley, shady bars/inns, and a grand marketplace. Just an idea.
